On November 25, 2021, Agence Nationale de l’identification (ANID), Government of The Togolese Republic, entered into an MoU with IIIT-B in a significant step towards establishing their national digital ID system.

The Togolese Republic seeks to establish a foundational system of identification and authentication for all physical persons in the territory of the country. The establishment of such a system will allow obtaining, maintaining, conserving, and updating data pertinent to identity with the principal aim of facilitating access to, and delivery of, services. MOSIP has partnered with ANID and will continue to provide help with transfer of technology, capacity-building, and technical support, in the adoption of the platform.
Speaking on behalf of IIIT-Bangalore and MOSIP, Prof. Rajagopalan, President of MOSIP, said:
“We are pleased to be entering this partnership with the Togolese government. Togo joins a growing community of countries that aim to build their foundational ID systems using MOSIP as the platform. We look forward to supporting the Togolese government on their path to success, and are hopeful that the fID system they are investing in helps form a solid common rail for good governance.“
MOSIP is already working to support the establishment of robust digital ID systems in the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of the Philippines. MOSIP has also successfully completed a pilot in the Republic of Guinea and is working with Ethiopia and Sri Lanka, on pilot implementations. We look forward to this network expanding across the globe as more countries adopt Digital Public Goods to establish their critical digital infrastructures.
MOSIP (Modular Open-Source Identification Platform) was incubated at IIIT-Bangalore as a global digital public good. The platform’s modular architecture, easy configuration, and customisation abilities, enables countries the flexibility to build their foundational digital ID systems in a cost-effective manner.
MOSIP was built on a strong bedrock of principles for security and privacy. The use of open standards and open-source code ensures that MOSIP is agnostic to specific applications, programming languages, and platforms, and actively works towards avoiding vendor lock-in.
MOSIP is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates’ Foundation, Tata Trust, Omidyar Networks, and NORAD.
